Pranav Kumar, a political as
well as a staunch social activist who carries several aspects in
his personality. An inspiring and diligent leader as well as a staunch social
crusader always dedicated towards bringing in the positive change we desire has
worked as an
Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the MLA, 21, Dhaka Assembly Seat, Government
of Bihar and Ex-Spokesperson at The Indian Student Parliament (Bhartiya Chhatra
Sansad) for the State of Bihar. As a social crusader he has worked for the
Students' Oxygen movement which is active in the state of Bihar and Delhi
working for making Education the biggest issue and also with Green saver and
Welfare which is active in the city Patna from last 5 years trying to make our
city a better place to live in. Also awakening the society against the evils
and injustice through street plays by self founded social community Pratibimb.
He has even worked in a Hindi feature film "Biharism-A Fight with
Identity", a movie based on the issue of racism the people dwelling from
the state of Bihar have to face. His works
till date is well known for bringing positive change in every fields be it
roads, electricity, health, agriculture, educational reforms, strengthening
sports scenarios or development of social harmony in his work place which is a
huge milestone of his career. Few of his important works are mentioned
below:
·
Starting
from his college days, he founded a social community named “Pratibimb – The
Reflection of Change” which was basically a dramatics group and through his
plays, he started performing stage plays and street plays on many social
political issues or injustice beginning from his own college. Slowly and
slowly, his plays crossed the college boundaries and reached other colleges of
South India like NIT-Surathkal, Manipal etc. The motive behind these
performances was to awaken the society against social injustice and side by
side the group used to collect money also in form of prizes. After cutting the
expenses met for the performance, the whole prize money was invested in some
social activities, like celebrating mothers’ day among our elders at old age
home in Dharwad or celebrating Children’s Day among the students of Kelkeri
Sangeet Vidyalay located in Karnataka, an institute for physically disabled
people or extending their volunteering hands towards “Samarthnam” an
organisation for Blinds or organizing some social meets namely “Mulaquat” in
his college premises on some heated topics related to the problems inside the
college campus by inviting some experts from the concerned field and then post
discussion bring out some remedies to the problems. Few prominent street plays
by his group which left harder impact upon on the people includes
“Bhrashtachaar”, “Dastak – A play based on Women atrocities”, “Dharm”, “Kalyug
ka Aam Aadmi”, “Satyendra Dube”, “Bazaar”, “Laalsa – A play based on human
greed” and many others.
·
While
he was in the college, he got in touch with a leading social organisation named
“Students’ Oxygen Movement” working in the city Patna which has now expanded to
the cities of Ranchi and New Delhi with the motive of bringing revolution in the
field of education. Besides taking part in the programs of the movement, as
its’ coordinator he started a program named “Talent Sharing Program” in its’
premises. The main theme of this program was that the student’s coming from the
under privileged sections of the society would be given free English class and
also every student would get a chance to teach all so that all gets a chance to
share his/her talent and thus every one can learn from every other student.
·
His
association with “Green Saver and Welfare” an organisation founded by his
friend lead to various social initiative like planting trees in the city,
organising seminars on environmental issues, traffic cultures etc, distribution
of winter wears collected from nook and corners of the city Patna among the
poor.
·
In
March 2014 he got an opportunity through the Indian Student Parliament to work
with an independent MLA from Dhaka, East Champaran (Bihar) as his OSD. He quit
his well established job as a Chemical Engineer to fulfil his passion to work
for rural India. This can be termed as the most important tenure of his career
till now. He got an opportunity to work on every single issues of an assembly
constituency. The elaborate discussion about his works is done below.
Ø Besides the
work of the MLA, he collected sponsorships and empowered women by organizing
"women’s Kabbaddi tournament", "Women’s Cricket tournament as
well as “Women’s Badminton tournament. Even for men, he organized cricket,
badminton, football tournaments.
Ø Now if we
come to the point of electricity, then, during the 4 years tenure, the MLA has
distributed 234 transformers but soon after his joining Pranav adopted a unique
way of igniting the minds of the general public by conducting public meetings
among all the villagers to buy electricity poles and wires themselves by
collecting the required amount and further MLA was there as a backup for
providing transformer and thus not rely upon the government policies as no one
knows how much time it would take. The result of his effort is that out of the
244 villages of his constituency, maximum has been electrified.
Ø One more
unique effort by him was “Pravaas Yaatra”
for which he invited 14 ministers of the Bihar government with the consent of
Mr. Jaiswal to Dhaka constituency and during which the MLA along with all the
ministers spent 1 whole day in every panchayat, visiting door to door,
listening to the problems of the general public by conducting “janata darbaar” with the concerned
minister at various places. The team even spent the night in the each panchayat
keeping in mind the fact that the working class would not be able to
participate in the meeting during the day time. The result though was not
satisfactory as maximum remedies of the problems remained in files only but yes
at least 20 % got sorted out.
Ø
In the field of education, as an honour to the
meritorious students, he sorted out top three position holders of matriculation
examination from each high school of Dhaka constituency and top three students
from among all the high schools and got them felicitated in front of the public
and many dignitaries. This started the feeling of competition for education
among the students. Even selected top 5 teachers from Dhaka who have been
performing their duties with full dedication, by conducting detailed survey of
their works and got them selected in the same manner.
Ø
In health sector, he
prepared questions for the MLA catering the needs of the general public through
door to door survey which resulted in sanctioning of many “Swaasthya Kendras” at
numerous villages, got 117 among 874 hand pumps installed at various required
places of extreme needs upon his recommendations. The assembly questions even
resulted in sanctioning of too many “Mini
Jalapurti Yojna” at numerous
villages and schools, kitchen Sheds
in schools as well as collective toilets, and even, he got 3 – 4 water tanks
sanctioned at larger population villages (though none of its’ construction has
started yet). One important milestone of his career was when the assembly
question prepared for Mr. Jaiswal resulted in the upgrading of Dhaka referral
hospital to Circle level hospital thereby increasing the number of beds to 100
and also better health facilities.
Ø
In agriculture sector, he
got installed tube wells by repeatedly putting pressure on the Government
through his application and thanks to the MLA for supporting the cause.
Ø
His effort made Mr Jaiswal the only MLA in
Bihar who releases the report card of the year 2014-2015 of his work in the
form of a book with all the important contact numbers of officers of respective
departments and also the details of the questions raised by him in the
assembly.
Ø
Lastly the most important
work which was being carried out under his supervision in Dhaka was the
“Vidhayak Adarsh Gram Yojna” (MLA Ideal Village Scheme). Key features of the
scheme are mentioned below:
v
VAGY gives focus to
community participation by formation of Residents’ Welfare Association (RWA) in
each of the three villages adopted
v
Includes installation of
150 LED lights in each of the three villages adopted. The electricity bill of
these lights would be paid from the fund collected (one rupee daily/house) by
the RWA supervised under the elected chairman from amongst the members
v
Establishment of Sewing
centres where girls/ladies can be trained free of cost
v
Establishment of various
micro scale industries like of candle, camphor, pickles, paper plates, spices
etc. Place has been finalised in each village and the owner has been convinced
that they won’t be paid the rent for the first 6 months.
v
3 months training for
security guards, drivers and mobile repairing will be provided and then jobs
for 75% of them there after
v
Installation of public
toilet facilities for men and women at various places
v
Opening of computer
centres so as to provide free learning to the youths of the village
v
Construction of roads and
canals by setting priorities as per needs in coordination with the gram
panchayats
v
Thereby strengthening the
economy of the village and empowering women by providing suitable livelihood.
Work on VAGY is in progress in villages
namely Parsa, Chandanbara, and Basatpur. Detailed door to door survey is
complete and the Computer and Sewing centers has been started. Currently work
on the installation of LED lights is in progress. Work on micro scale
industries is being done in coordination with Drishti Group from Kolkata.
Beside
all these, he has been recognized as a social communicator, a writer who is
known as a straight-forward speaker on social issues and as a motivator who
ignites young minds with his vibrant speeches.
